Friends' projects

The Friends are involved in many projects, both supporting the Museum with funds for ambitious projects and developing our own initiatives.

Some of the projects are longer-term, like the restoration of District Line 'Q' stock. Others, like the Heritage Electric Train and the signalling projects, provide hours of fun for visitors to the Museum Depot's open weekends.

The Friends are also actively involved in heritage bus operations, taking Museum vehicles to outside events, where they can be seen and enjoyed by a wider public audience.

Key project achievemrnts in 2024 are:

  • Major milestones achieved with the Q stock restoration.
  • Curatorial Assistant post funded and appointed. Funding provided for additional post.
  • Support for the refurbishment of a three car Cravens train.
  • Joint funding with the Omnibus Society to digitalise the LGOC Minute books
  • Support for London Bus Musuem restoration of T357
  • Emergency funding to the Museum to allow Inspire Engineering project to continue
  • Continued support for vehicle restoration, repairs, and heritage pperations
