POSTPONED - DAY TRIP TO IWM DUXFORD

POSTPONED - DAY TRIP TO IWM DUXFORD
This Visit is now Postponed until Spring 2024

On Wednesday 13th September we have arranged a day trip to the famous Duxford aerodrome in Cambridgeshire, now part of the Imperial War Museum. The museum houses British civil and military aircraft, which are on display both externally and internally. There is a modern building dedicated to the United States Air Force that served with distinction alongside the Royal Air Force in World War Two and during the Cold War. There is a Land Warfare Museum to view as well. You can see aircraft being restored and maintained in the aerodrome’s hangers; and you can cross the footbridge to see an exhibition of the WW2 Operations Room. You may also be lucky to see historic aircraft on test on the ground or flying.

The Friends’ party will meet at Epping Underground station at 09.45 for a 10.00 departure by a restored London Routemaster. We will arrive at Duxford at about 11.00.  You are free to roam around the site throughout the day. Bring a picnic or visit the café (or both). We hope the weather will be kind for our visit, though there is plenty to view under cover. We will leave Duxford at 16.00 aiming to return to Epping at 17.00.

There are 60 places available. Bring your walking shoes: Duxford is a big place. Remember Routemasters have high access steps and steep stairs; wheelchairs cannot be carried.
