FRM TOUR

FRM TOUR

BOOKINGS NOW CLOSED

A special tour will operate on Sunday 22nd December 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the entry into service of prototype Routemaster FRM1 as a one-man-operated bus from Croydon garage on that same date in 1969.

Please note that the date of this tour is one week later than that provisionally advertised in the Autumn 2019 issue of Friends News.

A limited number of places on this tour are bookable here on the Friends website. The cost is £20 payable in advance of travel.

The outline itinerary is:

09.00:  Friends with booked places assemble in the Lecture Theatre at Acton Depot for a brief introduction. Tea and coffee will be available and FRM1 will depart no later than 09:30.

Participants are encouraged to join the tour at Acton; but pick-up calls may be made at Tooting Bec station, Streatham station and West Croydon bus station, if requested in response to the booking confirmation you will be sent.

We hope to include visits to West Croydon bus station and South Croydon garage. The bus will traverse its old routes: 233 (Roundshaw), 234B (Selsdon) and 234 (Hackbridge) then return to Acton, with some drop-offs en route to be confirmed at booking confirmation.

Stops will be made for comfort breaks and for participants to take lunch (not provided).

You will need to log on as a Friend before you can complete the booking.

You will be told on the website if your booking is accepted or if the tour is already full. If you do secure a place, you will be sent further confirmation by email within a week or so, with a request for payment, in advance of travel, by electronic transfer or cheque.  You will also be asked to confirm your pick up point.

Tour participants must provide mobile phone numbers so that any delays, last minute alterations etc. can be advised; and must provide their own hi-vi vest to enable use of facilities at West Croydon bus station and at South Croydon garage.

THE TOUR WILL OPERATE ONLY IF WEATHER, ROAD SURFACES AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ARE FAVOURABLE AND SUBJECT TO VEHICLE AVAILABILITY ON THE DAY.
