MURDER AND MYSTERY IN DEVON

MURDER AND MYSTERY IN DEVON

Join us for a weekend of wartime trajedy, mystery and murder.

Here is our itinerary:

Saturday 7th October

Meet in the First Class Lounge on Platform 1 at Paddington. Depart for Torquay on the 08.35 direct service, with complementary refreshments, arriving at 11:57. Walk the 12 steps to The Grand Hotel, where the afternoon will be entirely yours, offering you the choice of either a swim in the magnificent pool, lunch at one of the nearby restaurants or the Hotel, or a bracing walk along the sea front.

At 19.00 we will sit down to an excellent 3-course meal in our own dining room.  We have engaged the services of some of the finest actors in the West Country to entertain you during the meal with a ‘Murder Mystery’ challenge and performance.

Sunday 8th October

Whilst you are enjoying your extravagant West Country breakfast, there will be a power-point presentation on the Slapton Sands WW2 massacre.

We will then leave the hotel by bus for the Dartmouth Steam Railway and travel in the ‘Devon Belle’ Observation Car to Kingswear.  Coffee and pastries will be served in the refreshment rooms, before taking the ferry to Dartmouth.  At 13.30 we will depart from the Steamer Quay on the ‘Cardiff Castle’ charter vessel, with Chrissie our Blue Badge Guide. A cash bar is available onboard the boat.

Dinner in the evening will be in our hotel.

Monday 9th October

Your last chance for a swim before we depart on our coach at 09.30 for Dartmoor Prison, via the moors, accompanied by Chrissie. Upon arrival, we will visit the Prison Museum, which is run by the prisoners. Following this, we will be taken by a local guide to where the French and American Civil War prisoners were held.

Lunch will be taken in Princetown before joining the Tamar Valley Branch Line on its magnificent journey to Plymouth from Gunnislake via Calstock Viaduct. This is the old Southern Region ‘Atlantic Coast Express Route’ from Waterloo.

We depart Gunnislake at 15.45, change at Plymouth on to an HST departing at 16.57, arriving in Reading at 20.10 and Paddington at 20.39.  Complimentary light refreshments will be served at the table.

We look forward to the pleasure of your company.
