Under Two Wires

Under Two Wires

This meeting has been postponed due to the exceptional spell of hot weather expected later this week.

Tram and trolleybuses were abandoned in Britain at a time when oil was cheap and plentiful. The future of city transport was then thought to be massive road construction and universal car ownership, leaving a declining role for public transport.

Barry Coward will show examples of trolleybuses continuing in Europe after the UK had abandoned them in 1972. He will refer to the political decisions that caused Wellington to abandon their system after renewing the fleet, and will explain why Vancouver is about to take delivery of their 4th generation trolleybuses.

Join Barry in the Holden Room at the Acton Depot on Thursday 25 June at 14:00.
