FRIENDS SUPPORT STEAM ON THE MET

Steam trains returned to the Metropolitan Line on Saturday and Sunday 9th/10th September, with special runs between Harrow on the Hill and Amersham hauled by Met loco No. 1 and a GWR pannier tank.

The event saw the re-entry into service on the Underground of the 4TC set of coaches, newly overhauled and repainted in a smart maroon livery.

Museum Friends helped to steward the train; opened their sales stall at Amersham station, which did good business selling items of transport memorabilia; and also operated a heritage bus service between Amersham station and the Old Town on Sunday in connection with Amersham Heritage Day events. The heritage bus service was operated by the Museum's second prototype Routemaster RM2, in Country Bus green livery. Other Routemasters operated by a local bus preservation group also operated on the heritage service.
