TRANSPORT IN THE ISLE OF MAN

TRANSPORT IN THE ISLE OF MAN
The full title of Robert Smith's talk is: Isle of Man Transport - Connections, Challenges, Continuity.

Having joined London Transport in 1978, Robert Smith was the Director of Public Transport on the Isle of Man from 1987 to 1999, where he was responsible for all bus and heritage railway services. The Island is home to Britain's largest network of heritage railways. Robert went on to become Director of Metro Operations at Tyne and Wear Metro and Services Director at West Midlands PTE in Birmingham. In retirement, he is now a volunteer signalman on the Severn Valley Railway.

Robert's presentation covers the connections between London Transport and Isle of Man Transport at the time; the challenges that he faced in his new role; and looks at how his successors have continued to make it one of the best rural public transport services in the British Isles.
