50 YEARS OF THE VICTORIA LINE

50 YEARS OF THE VICTORIA LINE

A talk by John Self.

The Victoria line was the first passenger railway in the world to be automatically driven and has now been operating successfully for 50 years.

John Self joined London Transport in 1966 as a Student Trainee in the Chief Mechanical Engineer (Railways) Department.  Throughout his engineering career he was involved in various aspects of the Victoria line.  From 1988 to 1996 he was General Manager (Victoria line).

John’s talk traces the history of the line and its progress over 50 years, drawing particularly on his personal recollections.
